Various industries in Indonesia have adopted the use of B30 fuel in accordance with government policies. B30 is a diesel fuel blend consisting of 30% vegetable oil and 70% petroleum diesel. This fuel has the advantage of a higher cetane number compared to petroleum diesel.
The problem, however, is that using B30 can lead to the growth of anaerobic bacteria in fuel tanks. These bacteria cause the formation of sludge, accelerate the need for fuel filter replacements, and result in the deposition of metal sulfides. Furthermore, this can affect the high-pressure pump and injectors.
Sludge problem in diesel filters
Solution
Eonchemicals offers a solution product called EonBioFuel 3075 to address bacterial issues such as sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) and other bacteria in diesel storage tanks. This special product works by attacking the protein systems of bacteria and fungi and disrupting their food chains, preventing them from reproducing and causing them to die off naturally.
Success Story
Below is an application and observation of EonBioFuel 3075 when applied by one of our customers.
EonBioFuel 3075 Application
Bacteria grew in samples that did not use EonBioFuel 3075
The testing was conducted using a microbmonitor to observe bacterial growth and was carried out in accordance with ASTM D7978.
- There were >10,000 CFU (Colony Forming Units) of microbes in 1 liter of blank B30 sample (without EonBioFuel 3075).
- In the B30 sample with EonBioFuel 3075 (300 ppm), no bacterial colonies were found from the start until the fourth day
EonBioFuel 3075 has also been tested by the Directorate General of Oil and Gas and does not affect the quality of B30 diesel as established.
By using EonBioFuel 3075 and regularly cleaning the tanks, the issue of sludge caused by bacteria, which leads to excessive fuel filter usage, can be resolved.
