Issues of corrosion and metal erosion leading to thinning and even leakage are common in the mining industry. If these problems are not properly addressed, they can be detrimental to the company, causing downtime and potentially leading to workplace accidents.

Traditionally, metal patching is done through welding, which requires substantial equipment, a lot of time, and the use of heat. Another issue with the welding process is the potential for corrosion due to the different types of metals used for patching. Hard-to-reach leak points also pose a challenge that must be considered.

Solution

The ideal solution to the above problems is the use of repair compounds. This is a very practical metal patching technology that does not require equipment, does not generate heat, and is very easy to apply. This technology is implemented by mixing the compound and hardener to form a ceramic layer that is extremely strong and abrasion-resistant. In addition to fixing leaks, this repair compound can also be used to add layers to worn or thinned metal.

Success Story 

Our customer in Kalimantan frequently experienced leaks in their water truck tanks. This issue can arise due to activity, pH, and water content, or the influence of a corrosive environment. To address this problem, Eonchemicals provided a solution by coating the internal tank with Metbond 581. This method offers corrosion protection to the internal tank for approximately one year. Consequently, the costs of tank repairs and purchasing new tanks can be reduced (cost reduction).

Metbond 581 is a ceramic-based component used to rebuild metal components. It has a very strong adhesive power and can withstand heat up to 150 degrees Celsius. Its resistance to pressure is up to 30 bar.

The application process of this formula does not require heat, electricity, or large equipment, making it more practical and effective for patching a 20,000-liter water truck tank, as shown in the image below.
