Insulators made of ceramic can absorb water, leading to moss growth. As a result, their insulating power decreases, which can cause flashover or high voltage short circuits. This can even lead to fires if it occurs at a substation.

Solution

To address this issue, a thin layer of silicone conformal coating can be applied to the PCB (Printed Circuit Board), insulators, or other components. Its purpose is to protect against environmental contamination such as dust, weather, water, condensation, and others that can cause rust and damage to components.
