PT Jababeka Infrastruktur hosted the Jababeka Ecoweek Ceremonial on Thursday, August 15, 2024. This mangrove planting event marks the sixth annual agenda since its inception in 2018.

The first mangrove planting was held in Muara Gembong, North Bekasi in 2018 and 2019. Following the pandemic, from 2021 to 2022, the activities continued with the Vetiver System Project along the riverbanks of the Jababeka industrial area.

In 2023 and 2024, mangrove planting resumed in Muara Gembong, North Bekasi. This year’s event, themed “Sustainable Mangrove Planting for a Greener Tomorrow,” successfully met its target by planting 50,000 mangrove seedlings. Rhizophora is one of the mangrove species whose seedlings will be planted periodically.

Twenty students from President Middle and High School joined the sustainable mangrove planting program at Jababeka Ecoweek 2024 as an early introduction to environmental conservation actions. Eonchemicals, along with other companies, also contributed positively to the environment and the coastal communities around Pantai Bahagia Muara Gembong.

In addition to companies around the Jababeka area, local community groups also collaborated to support the success of the mangrove planting activities. These groups include the Alipbata Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) under the Bekasi Regency Tourism Office and the Forest Farmers Group (KTH) under the West Java Provincial Forestry Office.

The mangrove planting at Jababeka Ecoweek 2024 offers numerous benefits for both the environment and the surrounding communities, including:

  • Developing a green belt in the Pantai Bahagia Muara Gembong area, North Bekasi
  • Providing a source of livelihood for the community, particularly mangrove farmers
  • Protecting the coastline from erosion, abrasion, and strong winds, thus safeguarding community facilities
  • Reducing the occurrence of tidal flooding or high tides that cause seawater overflow
  • Preserving biodiversity programs, maintaining ecosystems in downstream areas, and serving as a food chain for various marine animals
  • Lowering carbon emissions and all types of hazardous metals in Indonesia, resulting in cleaner air and water quality

The ongoing mangrove planting program at Pantai Bahagia Muara Gembong aligns with Eonchemicals’ goal to support the government’s efforts in achieving net zero carbon by 2060. Let’s preserve the environment for a greener future!
